Turning goals into sales strategies: The tasks of a National Sales Manager

Since August 2024, Sara has been working as National Sales Manager at Pepperl+Fuchs in Brazil. In this role, she is responsible for sales at the national level and translates corporate goals into practical sales strategies.

Hello, Sara. Could you give us an insight into your area of responsibility?
Of course. As National Sales Manager at Pepperl+Fuchs, I lead the sales operations at a national level here in Brazil. I see my role as a kind of strategic intermediary who bridges the gap between the company’s vision and its execution in the market. My responsibility is to turn complex global objectives into actionable strategies that drive revenue and increase market share. By fostering collaboration across the network and leveraging data-driven insights, I ensure that we not only achieve our key performance indicators (KPIs), but also deliver real added value to our customers. In addition, as a leader, I support my sales team in achieving their goals.

The opportunity, to be a problem solver

What do you like about your job?
That I am constantly learning. I regularly meet new customers and have to understand and respond actively to their individual business needs. I see every interaction with a customer as an opportunity to be a problem solver. It is particularly fulfilling for me when I later see our products and solutions in use on site at the customer’s premises and know that we have successfully addressed their needs. What is also great about sales is that no two days are the same. Whether I am driving strategic initiatives, planning budgets, analyzing key figures, or actively supporting my field sales team — I move back and forth between a wide range of topics – and it is precisely this variety that motivates me.

What is particularly important to you in your work?
What matters most to me is that my team and I always strive to meet our customers’ expectations. It’s about more than just closing a deal. It’s about delivering effective solutions that create real value for customers. Only in this way can we build and nurture long-term partnerships.

Providing stability and security as a National Sales Manager

Which qualities are especially crucial for your position?
In my role, resilience, patience, and self-motivation are particularly important. In addition, when the market is volatile it is essential to remain calm and provide both customers and my team with stability and confidence. Being a leader, to me, means keeping a focus on long-term goals while at the same time paying attention to the development of the team and the demands of the market.

What has been your biggest challenge so far?
My biggest challenge so far has been dealing with global supply chains and production bottlenecks while still ensuring that we do not miss any business opportunities. Our customers place a great deal of trust in our brand, so it is especially important to meet their expectations even in times like these. This sometimes requires creativity and strategic negotiation skills to find alternative solutions that keep customers’ operations running smoothly without jeopardizing the trust we have built.

How do you create balance for yourself alongside your professional life?
I am convinced that periods of recovery are essential for a strong performance. In my free time, I enjoy activities that foster my creativity and strengthen my focus. For example, I make macramé plant hangers, enjoy doing puzzles, or take care of my plants. I also like doing Pilates, as the exercises place a special emphasis on balance. Another way I unwind after work is cooking. I am very passionate about it and enjoy sharing a good meal with family and friends afterward. That’s when I truly recharge my energy.
